Akshardham Operation Vajra Shakti 2025 Movie Reviews
About 19 years ago, Ahmedabad and the nation reeled from a terrorist attack that killed approximately 30 people and injured over 80. Following the 2002 Gujarat riots, the September 24 attack on Krishna Dham Mandir (renamed from Akshardham Mandir) stunned the public. Four terrorists, seeking the release of their accomplice Bilal Naikoo (Mir Sarwar), stormed the temple in a coordinated assault orchestrated from Pakistan. They killed numerous innocents and took hostages. The Ahmedabad police and National Security Guards (NSG) swiftly intervened to regain control.
The film Akshardham Operation Vajra Shakti, inspired by real events, honors the bravery of uniformed personnel. Directed by Ken Ghosh, it offers a detailed recounting of the NSG’s operation to save lives. While Ghosh takes creative liberties to craft an engaging fictional drama, the screenplay by William Borthwick and Simon Fantauzzo remains focused and avoids excessive dramatization. It centers on the characters’ humanity rather than portraying them as larger-than-life heroes, though their real-life courage shines through. The film may evoke comparisons to other terrorist attack narratives but risks disappointing some viewers due to its heavy fictionalization of a tragic event. It touches on the surface without delving into deeper, often concealed details.
Tejal Pramod Shetye’s cinematography enriches the story’s tone, with breathtaking scenes shot in Manali and well-executed action sequences choreographed by Mandhar Verma and Rinku Bacchan.
The narrative opens in Kupwara, Jammu & Kashmir, in 2001, where terrorists have kidnapped a minister’s daughter. NSG commandos, led by Major Hanut Singh (Akshaye Khanna) and Capt. Bibek (Akshay Oberoi), undertake a rescue mission. The operation leaves Hanut injured and Bibek dead, leading Hanut to grapple with PTSD. Yet, when duty calls, he must set aside his struggles. Alongside Captain Rohit Bagga (Vivek Dahiya), Hanut leads the response to the temple attack, showcasing resilience and determination.
