I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025 Movie Review

A fresh crew of scream-worthy teens—Madelyn Cline, Tyriq Withers, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, and Sarah Pidgeon—lands in a classic slasher setup. After a car crash on a cliffside they can barely be blamed for, they opt to cover it up rather than call the police, despite one of them being wealthy enough to likely dodge consequences with a slick PR team. But slashers don’t thrive on logic. The iconic hook is back, and that’s what counts.

The characters are over-the-top, teetering on parody. Cline’s Danica is a flighty, airheaded heiress with zero consistency in her love life or priorities. Withers’ Teddy is the absurd bro who hits the sauna in the middle of a serial-killer panic. Wonders’ Ava tries to make smart calls but gets sidetracked by her shady ex, Milo (Hauer-King, radiating “enigmatic heartthrob” vibes). Pidgeon’s Stevie, the working-class friend with a hint of sellout, carries the group’s only real emotional depth.

Their chemistry holds up, even if their choices don’t. The script leans into its own silliness, almost challenging you to take it seriously, which adds to its quirky charm. Just as you’re laughing at the Gen-Z absurdity, nostalgia kicks in with cameos from Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Julie James, the ultimate Final Girl, and Freddie Prinze Jr.’s Ray.
